UHV Wins $30,000 Grant from Alcoa Foundation
The university of Houston-Vitctoria UHV has been offered and has accepted a grant for $30 Thousand Dollars for math and computer science programs. The grant comes from Alcoa Foundation. Alcoa believes and is very excited to help support UHV with events and camps advance the learning curriculum for many in the areas of mathematics, robotics and computer programming.
An annual UHV Math and Robotics Awareness Day</b> with encouraging competitions along with after school robotics course availability for anyone that is really interested in becoming an integral part of tomorrow. Add to that the awesome summer camps as well and a computing season for middle school female students, and of course a virtual data science boot camp ( really intense ). The event competition is joined by about 200 high school students (9 – 12 grade ) that compete in the areas of Math and Robotics and Computer programming. Trophies and prizes are awarded.
All of this is fantastic news as the last couple of years, the annual UHV Math and Robotics Awareness Day has been canceled due to Covid-19 ( as is the case in many other large scale venues and events ). Associate Professor of Mathematics and coordinator for the event, Ricardo Teixeria has been quoted as saying “The event is scheduled for 2022 and will be hosted in person on the UHV campus.
This is fantastic news for anyone in the area. If you are into robotics, math or computer geek; you should really look into checking out this event. The event is scheduled for April 22, 2022.
This just goes to show how cooperation between educational institutions are supported in very positive ways by Corporations that are looking to help in the development of students in the area of robotics, mathematics and computer programming. This is what is needed by many others throughout the country. The benefits will be many more times than the investment. Together schools and companies that work together to attain goals such as this simply makes the world a better place.
The schedule for the Events is below:
